A cold wave is hitting winter wheat production areas in the middle part of the country. USDA meteorologist, Brad Rippey says that we are at this time expected to see potential sub-freezing temps to the ladder half of this week.
Perhaps as far south as Texas, northern panhandle, which means this cold wave could affect winter wheat in that area.
“We are seeing, obviously, some heading in some of the southern production areas. Heading wheat and sub-freezing temperatures do not make a good match as the top is extremely sensitive to sub-freezing temperatures at that stage of development,” Rippey states.
He goes on to add that he is expecting below normal temperatures throughout the end of next week, expanding from the eastern plains all the way to the Atlantic seaboard.
