USDA has a plan to combat the Asian long-horned beetle. The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced an eradication program.
It will focus on tree inspection in quarantined areas in Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, and South Carolina. They will remove infested trees for free for property owners and no insecticide treatments will be applied this year.
If you live in an ALB quarantined area here is how you can help:
Allow program officials on your property so they can inspect and remove infested trees
Hire a tree or landscape company that is in compliance with the ALB program
Contact your local ALP program to learn how to properly dispose of stumps or brush from your property
Do NOT move any infested trees or wood out of the area without contacting the program first
