Tokyo Olympics stadium sodded with turf grass developed by University of GA

Team USA has a home field advantage at the Tokyo Olympics.

The sod at Japan National Stadium is TifSport Bermuda grass, which was developed at the Tifton Georgia Campus of the University of Georgia.

UGA has been working with USDA to develop turf grasses for years and varieties developed there have covered sports fields for decades.

Tifton’s sandy soil makes it difficult for many plants to survive, which the university says makes for a great breeding ground to develop superior varieties.
