South Dakota farmers have started harvesting corn and soybeans, but filling combines may be a slow process.
USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says that the latest Crop Progress Report shows South Dakota’s corn crop is still the worst in the nation.
According to Rippey, “For the highest amount of the corn crop in very poor to poor condition, the Dakotas-- North Dakota, South Dakota-- tied at 42 percent. Next on the list is Colorado, where it’s really dried out late in the year across the Great Plains.”
As of Monday, the state’s pasture and range conditions were rated 80 percent poor to very poor.
