Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack is celebrating final trade numbers for 2021. The data shows it was a record-setting year.
Sales of U.S. farm goods were up 18 percent from 2020. That shatters the previous record by more than 14.5 percent.
“A record that was set in 2013, when I was Secretary before was surpassed in 2021, and it’s expected to anticipate that that record will be broken again this year... which is one of the reasons why commodity prices across the board are significantly stronger and higher than they were a year ago,” Vilsack explains.
The amount of ag products purchased from other countries amounted to a little more than $170 billion dollars, resulting in a $6.5 billion dollar trade surplus.
