New data show that millions of rangeland acres fail to meet the Bureau of Land Management’s own standards.
The bureau oversees 246 million acres of land. The data from Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility shows that 54 million acres are failing.
More than 40 percent fail land health standards in six states, including California and Colorado.
The agency admits there is work to be done and says that it will prioritize areas where standards are not met.
