We have reported a lot in recent months about potato wart from Canada. Researchers in Idaho want to make sure diseases like that do not ever enter the country.
Researchers at the University of Idaho have been working on a Virus Protection Project since the end of 2020. Right now, they are looking at how different viruses affect yield and quality across 10 states.
“So, we have three different objectives. The first one is a short-term objective focused on prevention of virus infection in potato through certification, primarily, and improvements in detection and diagnosis.”
The second objective focuses on management tools for handling potato viruses, while the third will look at breeding for virus resistance. The project will run through 2024.
