Beef industry leaders defend Navigable Waters Protection Rule

Beef industry leaders are defending the Navigable Waters Protection Rule.

The Trump administration successfully repealed and replaced the Obama Era ruling in September of last year. Since then, lawsuits in 13 states have been filed trying to revert it.

According to the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association all they need is one ruling. The NCBA’s Chief Environmental Council Scott Yager notes, “If you can kill it in court, then you have cast doubt on it’s legal validity... if you have a rule that’s been invalidated by even a district court then how do you interpret that. It clouds the whole issue.”

While NCBA and others welcome the new rule, some farmers and ranchers are still against it saying some waters should not be under federal regulation.
