USDA meteorologist on CA’s record wildfire season

It is a record setting season for California wildfires.

Last weekend’s flare ups marked the third peak in activity this season. The first fire happened in mid-August with another just a few weeks ago.

A USDA meteorologist says that firefighters have been busy.

“The two lightning complexes that were burning north and south of the Bay Area... both between 350 and 400,000 acres are both, are 98 percent contained. So they are largely tamped down looking for hotspots,” Brad Rippey states.

The August complex fire burned a record 902 thousand acres which is twice the size of the previous record blaze.
