There is growing concern meat processing plants could see disruptions again, with a new spike in COVID cases.
Pork industry executives say that they are keeping an eye on the situation and Minnesota Pork Board CEO David Preisler tells Brownfield Ag News, a certain level of immunity may have been built up among plant workers and they are not seeing any problems yet in the upper Midwest.
Daily slaughter is currently around 95 percent capacity.
However in New Mexico, a meat processor is fighting to stay open.
The state shut down Stampede Meat’s Sunland Park facility for 14 days because of a spike in cases involving 1 percent of the workers.
Stampede is suing citing President Donald Trump’s executive order declaring meat packing plants essential and ordering them to remain open.
An order in New Mexico requires business to close if they have four or more cases in a 14 day period.
The lawsuit claims USDA offered testing resources but the state health department declined the aid.
