Health officials are saying that cases of the coronavirus are surging nationwide.
Two drug makers say that they are all but ready to release their vaccines. A group of fifteen organizations wants food production employees prioritized for the vaccine, once they are available for distribution.
The North American Meat Institution is among the coalition.
The groups say that their workers are on the front lines of the pandemic and they need the vaccine to make sure the food supply is not disrupted.
The two companies showing success in their clinical trials right now are Pfizer and Moderna.
Perhaps the biggest difference in Moderna’s vaccine is storage.
It does not have to be kept in ultra-cold freezers, something that concerned rural hospitals about the Pfizer vaccine, because of cost. The company hopes to have 20 million doses distributed in the U.S. by the end of the year.
