Dolly Parton donation helping with COVID vaccine

Knoxville, Tennessee (Knox News)-- Moderna Therapeutics is one company that is working on a coronavirus vaccine. They received additional funds to aid in their research thanks to Dolly Parton.

The country music icon was credited for her support in the matter with her million dollar donation to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

According to Moderna, their vaccine has shown a success rate of over 90 percent.

Parton is no stranger to philanthropy. She not only employs thousands of local workers at her famous Dollywood, but in the early 1990s she even helped in boosting the literacy rate for children.

She also has ties to Vanderbilt Medical through a doctor who helped treat her after her 2014 car crash.
