Biden administration to work with farmers, ranchers on using climate-smart practices

Farmers say that they are ready to help the Biden administration as it combats climate change.

The President signed an order yesterday creating a National Climate Task Force. It also directs the Ag Secretary to get input from farmers and ranchers on how to use federal programs to encourage more use of climate-smart practices.

The President says that it will create jobs for rural Americans.

“So let me be clear, that includes revitalizing the economies of coal, oil, gas, and power plant communities. We have to start by creating new, good paying jobs, capping those abandoned wells, reclaiming mines, turning old brown fuel sites into new hubs of economic growth. Creating new, good paying jobs in those communities where those workers live, because they helped build this country,” President Biden stated.

He also said that he would not ban fracking outright, although the order does halt new oil and natural gas leases on public lands and waters. The order does not restrict energy activities on tribal land.

Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall says that he “appreciates that President Biden has committed to seek input from America’s farmers and ranchers. It’s critical that as new strategies are implemented our leaders listen to the people who will be affected the most.”
