The shipping container shortage is now impacting U.S. meat. In addition, labor concerns could also impact red meat exports, despite strong global demand.
Joe Schuele with the U.S. Meat Export Federation speaks with RFD-TV’s own Tammi Arender on the hurdles facing the sector, developments in port congestion, and the labor concerns.
According to Schuele, “We’ve had a growing problem with congestion, especially in our southern California ports... you have products being exported from Asia to the United States in record volumes to make up for some of that lost time, and this is creating a problem at the ports because they are short-handed due to COVID restrictions and not fully staffed at the ports. So, we’ve had some pretty serious wait times... That’s causing some concerns not only for exporters but our customers...”
