Last Friday, tribal nations received fourteen bison from the Denver Parks and Recreation in an effort to help reintroduce them to their native environment.
A majority will be going to the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes in Oklahoma and one will be going to the Tall Bull Memorial Council in Colorado. The city and county of Denver plan to continue these kinds of donations until 2030.
These efforts are to promote conservation, as well as returning the majestic animal back to their native homes.
“Bison restoration efforts teach us how to be better stewards of the land, improve prairie landscape and ecosystems, ensure genetic diversity of species, and ensure a legacy of cultural understanding,” Denver Mayor Michael Hancock stated, according to The Denver Channel.
Currently, North America has over 30,000 free-range wild bison.
