CA lawmakers unveiled wildfire prevention plan as drought lingers

California lawmakers are reacting to a dire report about potential water shortages as the drought lingers on.

They unveiled a half-billion-dollar wildfire prevention plan that includes vegetation management and building fire-resistant structures across the state.

The plan details how to spend a portion of the billion dollars Gov. Gavin Newsom set aside for wildfires in his January budget. The proposal is in direct response to last week’s report showing snowpack in the Sierra Nevada is only 59 percent of the average for early Spring.

The wildfire proposal could end up on the governor’s desk as soon as today.
