Beef demand will continue to be strong this year, but turning a profit may be a struggle for some

Lawmakers and the cattle industry have sent a letter to the Attorney General about anti-competitive practices in the meatpacking industry. The letter comes just days after we learned about a meeting with the nation’s six leading farm and cattle groups to discuss the very issue.

The Nebraska Farm Bureau says that it is pleased to see the meeting take place and says that the goals match up with the ones their own task force came up with last year. The bureau spoke to a senior economist, who says that producers will likely struggle to see positive returns this year.
