“Overreach": Farm Bureau and 120 ag groups are taking on a new SEC climate rule

The Farm Bureau is leading an effort by 120 ag groups calling for time on a rule that would require companies to report climate data to the Securities Exchange Commission.

Last month, the SEC issued a proposal that would require publicly traded companies to reveal climate information about every point in the supply chain. The Farm Bureau says that could reach almost every farmer and rancher because most of their products eventually touch a publicly traded company.

President Zippy Duvall calls it overreach and says that the ag industry is already heavily regulated. He says that the rule is more than 500 pages and the SEC has only given 39 days for public comment.
