At age 104, Major Bill White was hoping to gather some Valentine’s Day cards to add to his scrapbook collection. The goal was titled Operation Valentine and his daughter said he was hoping for 104 cards to match his age.

Instead of 104, he got about 300,000.

The notes included personal messages and thank yous from around the world, according to CNN. Some of the cards also came with traditional Valentine’s Day gifts like balloons, flowers and chocolate.

“I was as close to speechless as possible. I really don’t know what to say or what I can say. It’s something that I’ve never had before and probably will never get again,” he said.
