“A direct hit to fair markets": NFU is calling for Congress not to bow to meat-packing monopolies

The National Farmers Union is calling on Congress not to bow to meat-packing monopolies.

The group, along with several other national, regional, and state organizations, sent a letter to lawmakers imploring they allow USDA to continue making progress on the Packers and Stockyards Act.

NFU says that damaging provisions were included in an earlier version of this year’s Appropriations Bill. They say that it is the same strategy used by previous administrations who opposed the act.
President Rob Larew says, “Blocking USDA’s work would be a direct hit to fair markets and Congress should champion family farmers and consumers.”
