The U.S. almond crop is looking to come out better than expected this year, but around 7 percent off estimates made back in May. One California grower says the decline will allow the industry to address the oversupply seen over the last few years.
USDA estimates production at 2.8 billion pounds from California growers, coming out at just above 2,000 pounds per acre. The industry has seen an oversupply the last several years but the Almond Board of California is not worried. They say demand is always growing and their carryout from last year is the smallest in a long time.
In 2023, 212 million pounds of almonds left the state during the first 10 months of the year.
