A Must Pass: Lawmakers are emphasizing how producers can’t wait for a new Congress for an updated Farm Bill

140 House Republicans have penned a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson declaring the Farm Bill be considered a “must pass item.”

They emphasized the legislation’s importance explaining that farmers, ranchers, and producers are still living under 2018 Farm Bill policies they claim to be outdated. They urged the House Speaker to take action, sharing that farmers and ranchers do not have the luxury of waiting until the next Congress for an updated Farm Bill, with the highest ever farm debt of $540 billion looming over them as commodity prices fall.

They wrote:

“The 118th Congress has an opportunity to do right by producers, other agriculture stakeholders, rural communities, and taxpayers by putting more ‘farm’ back in the Farm Bill and by making responsible reforms and investments

across all 12 titles..”

Urging that the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2024 advanced by the House Committee on Agriculture does just that!
