A Nebraska bill could ban water exports

Today, the Nebraska Natural Resources Committee is hearing the details of a bill to ban water exports out of the state.

The bill was created in hopes of preserving water rights for Nebraska’s farmers.
State Senator Tom Briese tells Brownfield Ag News that he wants a roadblock in place against other states coming in to tap and mine Nebraska groundwater for industrial or developmental use.

Although, if passed, the bill could face legal challenges. Two previous court cases determined water movement cannot be restricted from state to state.
