A Win For Farmers: EPA rolls out new decisions on atrazine

After years of trying to convince the EPA that atrazine concern levels were set too low, ag groups and producers got a win. The Agency has announced a new, higher level after a review.

The previous level of concern was 3.4 parts per billion. Atrazine’s manufacturer, Syngenta, as well as farm groups, argued it was too low. After sending the issue to a scientific review panel, the EPA has raised the concern level to 9.7 parts per billion.

The Agency says the new level will impact a smaller number of acres in the United States and require fewer farmers to mitigate for their use of the pesticide.
