Reuters reports that Poland recorded over 50 outbreaks of African swine in wild boar near the German border last month, according to the World Animal Health Body. It is a sign the deadly virus is spreading near one of the European Union’s biggest pork exports.
The World Organization for Animal Health website showed the disease had now been found in a village less than 19 miles from Germany. The deadly disease has already devastated the world’s top pork producer, China.
There are fears in Germany that its exports of pork to China could be threatened because bans are regularly imposed on pig meat from areas where African swine fever has been discovered.
Authorities in German states that border Poland has built fences in an attempt to stop wild boars from wandering into Germany and spreading the disease.
