We should learn more about the House version of the Farm Bill this week.
Ag Committee Chair GT Thompson is expected to release a series of papers this week defending his approach. He has already released a broad outline that touches on Inflation Reduction Act funding, the thrifty food plan formula, SNAP benefits, and California’s Prop-12. However, AgriPulse reports the plan lacks any democrat support currently. Thompson has scheduled the first markup for May 23rd.
Senate Ag Chair Debbie Stabenow has released a much more thorough plan, which has the support of Democrats and Secretary Tom Vilsack. Thompson plans to meet with Stabenow some time this week to try and find common ground.
