Agritourism Heads to the Federal Level

A new bill would promote agritourism at the federal level. The Agritourism Act would give the industry a dedicated office within USDA. Washington state Congressman Dan Newhouse sponsored the legislation and says it highlights recent successes in modern agriculture.

“As we can work with the assets we have in our local communities, from the local wineries and breweries, orchards, dairies, farmer’s markets, there’s just a lot of attractions to our urban cousins that bring them to farm country. This provides a diverse set of opportunities for those of use in rural areas to capitalize on.”

The Census of Agriculture found agritourism income more than tripled from 2002 to 2017.
