Ahead of the Average: 2024 upper Mississippi River shipping season opens as the first tow arrives

The upper Mississippi River shipping season is now open!

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Saint Paul district shared the first tow of the season.
The Joseph Patrick Eckstein passed through fittingly on St. Patrick’s Day in Hastings Minnesota and is heading towards Saint Paul.

All locks are now accessible to commercial and recreational vessels, which is ahead of the average of March 22nd.

Now grain exporters are waiting for the shipping season to pen in the Port of Duluth-Superior.
