With meat processing plants causing issues with the supply chain, the Alaska Farm Bureau wants the public to know there’s an easy way residents can buy beef and pork.
“There’s not a meat shortage, it’s just the big processing plants are closed,” the Alaska Farm Bureau wrote on Facebook.
The organization recommended a simple process for consumers to get fresh, quality meat without going to the grocery store.
First, team up with a few friends and contact a local farmer to buy a steer. Next, contact a local butcher and set up a time for the farmer to deliver the steer to the butcher. Then, the butcher will call you when your meat is ready and you can go pick it up.
“This way you keep local business and farms going,” the post read.
