Leveraging a loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank, the province of Alberta and eight southern districts are set to get more than $800 million dollars for new irrigation projects.
Shaun Haney, the host of RealAg Radio, says we’re going to see 200,00 new irrigated acres in the southern area of the province.
“It’s a 50 percent commitment from the federally backed Canadian Infrastructure Bank... the remaining 407 million will be covered by the province and the districts,” Haney said. “They’re going to create four new reservoirs to enhance existing irrigation infrastructure. So, pretty exciting stuff.”
