Denali National Park is melting hearts across America with its newest litter of puppies.
The litter, “America’s Best Idea,” is in honor of America’s 250th birthday with each pup named after a national park. The milestone marks 250 years of growth and protection of shared public lands.

Sequoia, Mesa, Mammoth, Teton, and Rainer were born on March 30, 2026. Later this month, their kennel, Sage Mountain, will pick two puppies who will stay in the park for a few weeks and will join their teams in Fairbanks. The National Park Service will select one puppy from the Middle Earth Mushing Kennels to become a Denali canine ranger, according to the National Park Service.
Mushing is a tradition across Alaska and helps the National Park Service patrol areas of designated Wilderness during winter.
