Are you having trouble finding certain wheat varieties? Here’s probably why

Last year’s abysmal season for winter wheat left abandonment at levels not seen since World War I, and that number is leaving farmers tight on seed.

Clay Shem is a farmer in western Kansas, and he tells Brownfield Ag News he is finding a lack of availability for some winter wheat varieties, planting only two different kinds this year.

He covered the primary planting acres with what they had available, but when it came to adding extra acres, they were left scrambling. He says it is usually a regional issue, but it has been an ongoing problem for several years now.
