DEWITT, Ark. (RFD News) — Rice harvest is underway in Arkansas, where acreage is down 30% this year.
Jim Craig with JHC Farms says he is harvesting around 800 acres, down from both the farm’s typical acreage and last year’s larger crop.
Despite fewer acres, Craig says the crop is showing promise. Growers dealt with some uneven stands early in the season, but he says they have been pleased with the harvest so far.
Arkansas accounts for more than half of the U.S. rice crop.
