Avoid White Mold: Plant soybeans later could be very beneficial

As some uncertainty remains over planting timing, a crop expert with UPL says planting soybeans later could be beneficial.

Tech services lead, Lynn Justesen, tells Brownfield Ag News this could help farmers avoid white mold. He says early planting lends itself to cooler, wet weather and that’s when mold thrives. Justesen also says early beans are bigger so they stay wet longer under the canopy, giving way to the disease.

In addition to later planting, wide-row spacing and a smaller plant population can help too.
