The No. 17 ranked bareback rider in the world will not be rodeoing for the rest of 2020.

Kody Lamb says he tore a muscle in his groin completely off his pelvis on his right leg and was also diagnosed with a sports hernia.

The injury came when he was bucked off Rocky Mountain Rodeo’s Shamrock in Westcliffe, Colorado on July 18. It was not a big wreck, either, Lamb just felt something pop and was in a lot of pain so he bailed on the ride quickly.

“I knew something was messed up as soon as it happened. I’ve been through a number of injuries and I could tell it was bad right away,” he told ProRodeo.com. “A lot of guys have had this injury. I’m waiting to try and get in for surgery right now....... Given the nature of bareback riding, there’s a pretty high likelihood that I will do it again if I don’t get the surgery, so I’m probably going to go ahead and get it done now rather than have the surgery in February that I needed to have now.”

The Canadian cowboy has earned $25,965.35, about of third of that came from winning the New Years Eve Buck & Ball in Wyoming. He also made the Top 8 at RFD-TV’s The American in March.

Lamb’s previous best finish in the standings was No. 20, which came in 2019.
