Biofuel groups are looking for updates to RFS over corn ethanol in jet fuel

The biofuel industry has seen some turbulence recently, but as they look ahead for an update to the GREET model, industry officials warn more action will need to be taken for investors to take hold of sustainable jet fuel.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack expresses uncertainty regarding whether the EPA would incorporate the GREET model update to the Renewable Fuels Standard. This uncertainty leaves corn ethanol’s status uncertain as it currently does not qualify as an advanced biofuel, rendering it ineligible for tax credits.

Right now, the EPA is running on an analysis from 2010 for the RFS, which shows corn ethanol does not meet the requirements for advanced biofuels. Biofuel groups say that analysis needs to be changed in order to secure the future of corn ethanol in sustainable jet fuel.
