Bird Robot? New technology will monitor broiler chickens 24/7

Labor help could be on the way for broiler producers, and these potential workers do not require breaks.

“Scout” is a ceiling-suspended robot system built for continuously monitoring broiler chickens and the buildings they are housed in. It is a new product by Cumberland, a division of AgCo.

The robot uses sensors to monitor temperature, air quality, light intensity, sound, and can even detect dead birds. Cumberland says “Scout” can also detect disease through excrement up to two days before producers may be aware there is a problem.

The system can be ordered through the Cumberland dealer network.
