You’re not the only one looking to go on a summer vacation this year!

A black bear is making its way across central Illinois. The bear, now nicknamed Bruno, originally crossed into Illinois from Wisconsin on June 10. It then crossed into Iowa and then back into Illinois.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and police are monitoring the bear’s travels for the safety of the bear and others.

On Sunday, IDNR staff and conservation police officers helped Bruno cross the I-72 interstate via a county road overpass outside Barry in Pike County. Officials are asking the public to give Bruno some space as he makes his way, saying, “We know many of you want to get a glimpse or picture of him yourselves, but please remember to stay off private property and not to crowd the bear. Giving him plenty of room helps keep him, our staff, officers and the public safe.”
