A California lawmaker is looking to ban what environmental groups call concentrated feeding operations, but not for your typical livestock. Instead, it targets octopus farming.
The bill would ban the practice of raising large amounts of octopi for food. Steve Bennett, the bill’s sponsor, says treating the animals if they were “sea cows” would not be suitable and believes the state needs to act before any kind of industry emerges.
Environmental sponsors say the bill has a good chance at passing, especially considering the recent passage of Prop-12 in the state.
