Cattlemen groups ask USDA to prioritize American meat in food box program

Cattlemen are calling on the USDA to prioritize meat processors in the Farmers to Families Food Box Program. The groups highlight a regulatory loophole allowing for imported beef to be labeled “product of the U.S.A.”

Lia Biondo with the U.S. Cattlemen Association spoke with RFD-TV’s John Jenkinson on the programs current regulations and the effects it is having on local and regional processors.

“U.S. Cattlemen Association joined 11 other national and state groups in asking USDA to give preference to applicants for the Farmers to Families Food Box Program that truly demonstrate a commitment to procuring American raised and grown products,” Biondo said.
