In an interview with Barron’s, Chipotle CEO Brian Niccol said the restaurant would not be next to join the plant-based meat trend.
“I do think the plant-based food trend is a real trend,” Nichol said. “I’m not sure plant-based foods that look and taste like meat are a long-term trend. It’s food chemistry to get that texture and that experience. Our plant-based solution is organic tofu. It’s great.”
He also noted that Chipotle prides itself on fresh ingredients and that plant-based meat is highly processed.
Niccol has been critical of Beyond Meat in the past.
