Cole “The Cornstar” Uses Social Media to Connect Consumers with Modern Farming on SharkFarmer

Fifth-generation Iowa farmer and social media influencer Cole “The Cornstar” shares about his appearance on SharkFarmer and why he is passionate about sharing agriculture’s story with consumers.

GARWIN, Iowa (RFD NEWS) — Fifth-generation Iowa farmer and social media creator Cole “The Cornstar” is using online videos to help connect consumers with modern agriculture while sharing everyday life on his family’s farm.

Cole joined us on Friday’s Market Day Report to discuss his appearance on the upcoming episode of SharkFarmer, where he helped develop questions for the show’s popular “Man on the Street” segment.

In his conversation with RFD News, Cole said his family’s farm is approaching century farm status, and today he farms alongside his father as the fifth generation on the operation.

On the episode, Cole provides agriculture-related questions for host Rob Sharkey to ask members of the public. He said the segment offers a glimpse into what consumers know about farming while also highlighting opportunities to educate people about agriculture and where their food comes from.

Cole said that the mission of education is what inspired him to begin creating videos in the first place. Through his social media platforms, he documents the day-to-day work of his family’s farm, giving viewers a firsthand look at modern agriculture while explaining what is happening throughout the growing season.

He said his audience includes both people with no farming background and those who grew up around agriculture. While many viewers learn something new about farming, others reconnect with memories of visiting grandparents’ farms or growing up in rural communities.

Cole said he still considers himself a normal farmer who enjoys sharing both the successes and challenges of farming. By documenting what works—and what doesn’t—he hopes others can learn from his experiences.
