Congressman Sanford Bishop has served Georgia for nearly three decades and he has been an advocate for the state’s No. 1 industry. The Georgia Farm Monitor shares this video as he is awarded the American Farm Bureau’s Golden Plow Award.
Each year, the AFBF recognizes members of Congress for their work for agriculture on Capitol Hill with the Golden Plow Award. This year the honor went to Sanford Bishop.
“This means a great deal to me to be recognized by the Farm Bureau and to say to me that my work has not been in vain. I appreciate it, I am a servant,” Bishop said. “I believe that it is my job to work for and in behalf of the people and the farmers and the ranchers and the people of the 2nd Congressional district who sent me to Washington, many years ago, and I’ve tried to do my dead level best represent them well.”
AFBF president Zippy Duvall says that the award went to a great advocate for ag, one that defies party lines to make sure that agriculture remains successful in the state, as well as the nation. Duvall notes, “You can always depend on Congressman Bishop to by that person reaching across the aisle and making sure he finds support for policies that are going to be good for rural America.”
One of the most recent across the aisle moments was after Hurricane Michael.
