Americans are still worried about high food prices.
A Food Industry Association poll found nearly half, 48 percent, say they are extremely concerned about increases in grocery items. The FIA says there is also a rise in the number of consumers worried they will not have the money for their basic food needs.
“And some of this is the end of federal aid, so people have less money. You’re starting to see people driving up credit card debt, personal savings are going down, but this is concerning for us as an industry that people are feeling these pressures again. It’s not just that they’re paying more, but they’re actually worried about if they’re going to be able to afford food,” said Andy Harig.
The group predicts it will take a while for food prices to moderate.
