The Smithfield plant in South Dakota, that is closed due to 600 plus cases of COVID-19, will be inspected by the Center for Disease Control today; however, this closure has produced a ripple effect throughout the company.
Two more Smithfield plants are now closed, due to positive COVID-19 cases: one in Wisconsin will be closed for two weeks and one in Missouri will be closed indefinitely.
Other companies are closing their processing plants or at the least slowing down production. Burgers’ Smokehouse in Missouri has closed its doors till the end of the week. Wayne Farms reports positive cases in five out of its eleven facilities. A Cargill plant in Colorado has pulled back production and some Canadian plants have reported cases, as well.
