CPI Report: Inflation slowed to 2.5% in August

The Consumer Price Index for August was right in line with most expectations.

The Index rose 0.2 percent during August, which is the same increase as July. On the year, it is up 2.5 percent. Increases in shelter were the driving force in this report - up half a percent during the month.

Today’s read will likely play a role in the Fed’s decision next week on how much to cut interest rates.
