As dairy farms struggle, top dairy executives make millions.
According to politico, Dairy Management Inc. paid 10 executives a total of 8 million dollars in 2017. Meanwhile, 16-hundred dairy farms closed across the country that year. DMI is a non-profit that promotes milk, cheese, and other products and is funded by nearly 2 dozen federally mandated checkoff programs. A spokesperson for the company says they review the CEO’s salary every year in comparison to peer companies. DMI says executive salaries are also competitive for the public and private sectors.
