Drought in Spain is visible from space!

Drought is taking a toll on one of the world’s leading olive oil producing regions, and it is visible from space!

NASA Earth tweeted this satellite image of Spain. This is a look at what the area looked like in May of 2022, with land covered in green vegetation and no major concerns.

Here is a look at the same area right now. It is a drastic change! The land is brown, reservoirs are dried up, olive groves are parched and farmers are facing water restrictions. NASA says the region only received 30% of its usual rainfall and temperatures have already reached 100 degrees. The North American Olive Oil Association says supplies will be limited and prices could double in some places.
