On Sunday, former NASCAR driver Eric McClure passed away-- there are no details yet on the cause of death. He was 42 years old.
He was born in Chilhowie, Virginia, and attended Emory and Henry College.
He mainly raced in the Xfinity Series. His last race was in 2016, and over his 14 season career, he had 288 starts.
In the NASCAR Spring Cup Series, he had three career starts. His debut was at Talladega in 2004 driving the No. 4 car.
His racing career was hindered by chronic health issues. In 2013, he was diagnosed with acute renal failure. Six years later he would be treated for double kidney failure. He also suffered from long-term side effects brought on by several concussions.
