4-H is America’s largest youth development organization, with a community of more than 100 public universities that provide young students the opportunity to develop skills to lead for a lifetime. The students learn by participating in hands-on projects focusing on leadership skills, agriculture, health, science and more, led by adult mentors through in-school and after-school programs. Globally, 4-H collaborates with independent programs to empower one million youth in 50 countries.
October 2nd marks the start of National 4-H Week, and 4-H is asking its alumni to share their stories online through the 4-H website or through the social media hashtag #4HGrown. Every alumnus has a story, whether it be focused on gardening, animal care, or others.
“4-H taught our alumni compassion, respect and the value of hard work. Now, we want them to share their stories with future 4-H’ers and help pass along that tradition to today’s young leaders,” says Jennifer Sirangelo, President and CEO of the National 4-H Council.
In addition to alumni stories, current 4-H participants and volunteers are presenting what life as a 4-H member is like, highlighting the skills they are working on to develop the leaders of tomorrow. Alumni interested in sharing their stories should visit www.4-H.org/share and share their photos and stories via social media using the hashtag #4HGrown. All alumni are encouraged to participate in their local club, community and state activities as well.
